First day of filming

We had our story boards at the ready to film the first scene! This scene included a sequence of Jazz passing a group of students at the school in order to show the character's loneliness and isolation.
The extras are a group of year 12 students that we asked to participate in our filming. The reason they had to be members of the school's sixth form is because Jazz is not in uniform, we felt this was helpful because we would be able to use the costume to reflect the character's mood. It would have been too big of a difference if the character was shown passing students at a much younger age than her and in uniform as it is then a given that she will be left out. In this situation the audience are more likely to sympathize with her as the people are seen to be the same as her however they are still shown to be of a higher authority as there are many of them and only Jazz.

Recording the song

 In order to record the song, we set up a keyboard, microphone and a mixing/ recording desk. The whole process took around 3 hours. half an hour to set up the equipment, around another half an hour to an hour for Jazz to rehearse the song with out the recording and the remaining time for Jazz to record and re- record different variations of the track.

First we recorded the piano backing track so that Jazz was able to sing along with the music. we did different versions of the piano, different timings and tempo until we decided on one that fit best with the visual picture (in our imaginations!) and Jazz's singing.

The tempo of the music is what decides the tempo of the music video concurrent with it therefore it was extremely important to find the right rhythm and build up in order to create the feeling that we want for the pace of the video. This is why we recorded the track before filming.

Casting

To represent the main character for our music video we chose Jazmine Flowers. we decided that Jazz would best fit this role for a number of reasons.

Firstly, Jazz is within the same age group as our target audience therefore making it easier for the majority of the audience to relate to. hopefully we have made the story one that mot people, whether in the target age group or not, will be able to relate to.

Secondly, Jazz was able to produce her own cover of the song 'Use Somebody' by kings of leon, however more in the style of Pixie Lott's acoustic version. we felt that having the same person on the recording as on visual may be easier for the audience to connect with the character more.

 Jazz is an enthusiastic musician as well as actor and dancer and we knew she would be able perform and have the patience to act to a high standard in order to enhance the visual quality of the music video.

Below is a picture of Jazmine Flowers;
she is 16 and is currently studying GCSE's which include Performing Arts and Music.
